In October 2020 we finally decided to start with the Immigration process.
In Dec 2018 we visited my brother and his family in Perth and we both loved the city and Australia. We wanted to emigrate to Australia. Although we could go for a workers permit our chance of getting Permanent Residency was zero as the cut-off age is 45.
After contacting a few agents, with not a lot of luck or help, a friend gave us the name of another immigration agent who specialises in both Australia and New Zealand. After Marais had done a skills assessment with them we had an hour-long interview. Australia was out if we want PR but New Zealand was an option as the cut-off age is 55 and Marais will be on the short-skilled list.
The agents were brilliant and prepared several documents with lots of very valuable information, timelines and of course, the quote. Immigration is not cheap. We had to sit down, write down all the pros and cons and see if we could actually afford it.
It is now April 2023 and I am writing this blog from Hamilton in New Zealand. We hope to start the process for PR in the next couple of months and who knows, by this time next year we might be Permanent Residence. 😊
